The Dominican University health sciences program is a well-rounded, interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree program that provides excellent career prospects.

If you’re interested in an entry-level job in any area of the health sector, consider our Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. It will give you the academic theory you need to polish your resume, while teaching you the in-demand skills that employers crave and will help you stand out from the crowd.

On the other hand, if you’re dreaming of a higher-level healthcare career, as an occupational therapist, physical therapist, athletic therapist, or physician’s assistant, you’re required by law to hold a graduate-level qualification. So, we’ve tailored our course concentrations (called ‘tracks’) to ensure you get a comprehensive grounding in the relevant subjects and are well-prepared for a masters- or doctor-level professional degree. In fact, Dominican University offers a Master of Science-Occupational Therapy program and a Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Also, if you’ve got a flair for business, you can also earn up to 15 credits toward a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management.

Of course, going to a University isn’t just about academics, so we’ve made sure all our students get the support they need to succeed with their course while also have heaps of fun along the way. If you choose Dominican University, you’ll have the opportunity to join any of a wide range of clubs, participate in great student activities and take advantage of everything nearby New York City has to offer.

A career in healthcare is truly rewarding and our society needs more healthcare workers. You’ll find a Dominican University health sciences degree will prepare you for a successful and really fulfilling career while also giving you a great university experience.

Concentrations

When you participate in our undergraduate health sciences degree, you’ll choose one of four concentrations:

  • General Track (122 credits) — This is a great choice if you’re seeking an entry-level job that doesn’t require an advanced degree or you’d like to apply for a professional program at another college or university
  • Pre-occupational Therapy Track (126 credits) — If you would like to pursue a career as an occupational therapist (which requires at least a master’s degree in occupational therapy), this track will prepare you for your graduate studies
  • Pre-physical Therapy Track (126 credits) — If you dream of becoming a physical therapist, this track includes all the prerequisites for our Doctor of Physical Therapy program (practicing physical therapists must hold a DPT degree)
  • Pre-athletic Training Track (128 credits) — From 2022, athletic trainers must hold at least a masters-level degree in athletic training, so if that’s your ideal vocation, this track will prepare you for a master’s degree (and if you’re one of the highest-qualifying graduates of this track, you’re guaranteed preference in the selection processes of the graduate athletic training programs at Daemen College, Neumann University, Slippery Rock University, and the University of Buffalo)
